Subject basically by Dude24: What is the title of the father of a monarch?
Okay, so say Prince Phillip outlives his wife Queen Elizabeth. When Charles becomes king what would his father’s title be? It couldn’t stay “prince consort” since he would no longer be the husband of the monarch, so would it be stylized similarly to “queen mother” but be “king father” instead? Or would it stay prince?

The royal title of a King’s father would normaly be King (deceased) as the title King would only be passed down once the elder King had died. However, Where the King’s father had never been king due to being a consort or equivalent to a queen and the queen had died, then it would be the responsibility of the new monarch to decide on a title for their father.

Depends on how the monarch came to be first in line before accession, and/or his/her fathers title as consort.
Philip doesn’t have the title of Prince Consort, he only occupies the position. If he is alive when his son becomes king then he will remain HRH Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh.
If George I had succeded in The UK before he succeded in Hannover then his father would have remianed titled The Elector of Hannover
Mary II and Anne’s (of England and Scotland) father retained the title HM The King in the Jacobite claim but was refered to as His Majesty King James II from 1688 by the courts of England, Scotland and Great Britian
Henry Stuart, father of James VI* retained the title His Grace The King of Scots until his death in 1567.
Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, reverted back to that title from Prince Consort at his wifes abdication in 1980.

He actually is not Prince Consort only Victorias husband has had that title. He is a British price in his own right and holds several other titles including Duke of Edinburgh. He would probably use this.
