From what age do children start learning a language to have it become their first language/”mother” tongue?

I ask because I’m adopting a little girl who isn’t of my ethnicity but I would like to talk to her in my language and for it to become her first language.

From the age of 2 but they get used to different language at an early age anyway hope this helps

as long as she is 4 or younger she will learn quick couse little kids catch on to things way too quick.she could still learn if she is older then 5 but its going to be a little more difficult

Start right away and she’ll pick it up after awhile.Kids are like sponges when their young they soak it all in. My daughter is 20 months and loves dora the explorer and says words in spanish to me sometime.I don’t know any.Congrats on adopting her kids are wonderful.

Kids start learning language at the age of birth. They hear it and become accustom to it. Most kids can say a few words by the time that they are 9 months old.

Right away! Just like any other child, they learn from the very start.

You should speak in your language right from the start, however be sure and use lots of hand signals and other body language to get across what you mean. She will pick it up quickly.

She will first understand passively, and later become actively speaking
