Dilemma from Jamie: how can i help my dog deal with my cats death?
We just got a kitten (sammy) 8 months ago and our dog (fancy) became Sammy’ss “mother” playing with him cleaning him and protecting him since day 1.. 5 days ago sammy died suddenly and fancy has been mourning since, she has walked around the house whining, not eating, and shakinguncontrollablyy Im getting very worried about her, do you have any advice for me?

aw, thats so sad. similar thing happened to our dog who grew up with our cat. they spent 11 years together, but she got sick and had to be put down. he wandered around looking for her for days… even when we thought he forgot about her, something would remind him and he’d go looking for her in all her favorite spots again. so sad when i remember…
but about all you can do is give her time. possibly clean the house a bit. might help get rid of the smell of the kitten. pack away the kittens toys.. that kinda stuff. she’ll get over it, but because she was mothering it, it might take a little while, since its like a mother losing a pup. some mom dogs are really attached that way.

Don’t kill the dog,but just get another kitty/cat so it will feel comfortable again.But I can’t guarantee
that it will work.And that’s because,well,maybe Sammy has a different personality that Fancy is used to.Anyway,you can try that.
