There are ways to tell family members to buzz off and if you get it right, then you get respect. If you say it wrong, you get shut off. The manner in which you told you mother was down right disrespectful and it was not at the right place. I would work on amends.

you should start by “minding” your own business. your just as wrong. these people you speak of are adults and are responsible for their own actions

Your someone who likes to be in control but can not handle control.
Part of being in control is allowing others to take the reins once and a while.
Life is not a dictatorship.
Your mother and your wife do not have to do things the way u do. No do u have to do things the way they do. But your attitude is demanding that they follow you.
Parents tell you what to do. Does not mean u have to follow it. All they want is respect and validation in what the say. that means that taking the time to listen to them is all they require. You dont have to follow their advice. Just listen to their advice.
Otherwise they are not doing their job as parents. Its just validation they want , not for you to follow orders.
You wife is in a different boat to what your parents are. You need to accept it is an equal opportunity marriage and not one control by only one person. Having and doing things your own way all the time means it is doomed for destruction. And or one of the spouses stays in the marriage and is unhappy.
Most married men will tell you that their wives are right most of the time. If they are honest.
Respect only comes if you also respect others and their opinions. Just taking the time to lend them an ear shows u respect them . In turn they respect you.
But demanding complete control and a Blanket NO to all offers of doing things a different way means that alot of burden is put on you to make sure things happen. Thos eburdens can be very severe especially if life throws u some very large hurdles , which we both know will happen in life.
Allowing some people to help tackle those hurdles is not an attack on your pride but a simple helping hand because you have to admit and acknowledge that u are not the only person with a BRAIN.

There is nothing wrong with telling them to mind their own business-especially if they are out of line and you are an adult. I’m all about respecting elders, but in this case, it sounds like your family members have a lot to learn about manners. Sometimes the only way to get through to these people is to give them a taste of their own medicine.

Try reprimanding them in public, and show them how it feels. There’s nothing wrong with telling someone to bud out and mind their business or to go f**k off, but you have to do it at the right time.
Do know far better?
