It’s just a form of respect. Parents aren’t your friends no matter how close you are to them, they’re your parents and there is a special kind of respect that is meant for them. And anyways, it is kind of odd calling them by their first names, in my opinion.
Answer by Matt
Because many parents feel that by their kids calling them by their real names, the kids are making the parents equal to them, when they should be higher.
Also its just about respect, and titles.

I, personally, wouldn’t consider it rude. I would question their relationship with their parents though. It’s not normal for a child to refer to their parent by their given names unless the relationship is severely strained. But rude? Not sure why people would think that!

I don’t think it’s disrespectful as much. It’s just weird to call your parents by their first names. I could’nt imagine calling my mother Betty. That’s just uncomfortable.

yeah by society it is unless they are your step- mom/dad then it’s okay it’s just a weird way of respect for family members

A mothers love, mothers day, mom is where there heart is, mom means home, moms baby; why would you want to call her anything else? Same with dad.
Have any idea far better?

Mother and Child (study)
Artwork as a result of Mother and Child (study)
Mother and Child (study), ca. 1926, plaster by William Zorach
William Zorach represented the bond between mother and child in different compositions. He often formed the figures with very little space between them, creating an inseparable unit in which the mother holds the child in a protective embrace. Zorach worked slowly and painstakingly on his monumental sculptures, often creating smaller studies of the subject. The final carving of Devotion was purchased by the Laurence Rockefellers, while Mother and Child (study) was made into a monumental stone carving that won the Art Institute of Chicago’s Logan Medal in 1931. Zorach spent three difficult years carving it, and afterwards said, “[It] is my finest piece of sculpture.”
